Would Southampton forward Charlie Austin be a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window?

QPR's Charlie Austin has a shot during the Sky Bet Championship match between Queens Park Rangers and Burnley at Loftus Road on December 12, 2015 in London, England.

Fernando Llorente may have recently broken his duck for Tottenham Hotspur, but the overall performances of the Spain international striker so far this season have left much to be desired.

One can understand that it must be hard for Llorente to get into games and score goals when he has to come as a substitute, but given his style of play, it is hard not to see that the 32-year-old does not exactly fit into Spurs’ gameplan.

Tottenham could do with another source of goals when Harry Kane needs rest, is injured or is out of form, and the North London outfit should make a move for Southampton forward Charlie Austin in the January transfer window for that very purpose.

Austin is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League, and the former Queens Park Rangers star has been banging in the goals for fun in recent weeks following his full recovery from injury.

Of course, the 28-year-old would be fully aware that at Spurs he would have to play second fiddle to Kane, but for the former Burnley star – who cost Southampton £4 million in transfer fees according to The Guardian when he made the switch from QPR in January 2016 – it would be a massive step-up in his career.
