Central midfield is one area where Tottenham Hotspur could be looking to add quality players in the summer.
Both Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama are top class players. Besides, there is emerging star Harry Winks in Spurs’ ranks. However, they can still add a proven central midfielder to gear up for Champions League football next season.
According to reports from the Spanish publication, Diario Gol, Spurs are interested in signing Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic.

The Croatian midfielder joined Los Blancos in 2015 from Inter Milan for a fee of around €30 million (£26 million) as reported by ESPN. He was a star player for Inter, but has struggled to get regular games at the Bernabeu.
With Toni Kroos, Luka Modric (Kovacic’s national teammate), and Casemiro ahead of him in the pecking order, Kovacic is left with no option than to accept a bit part role.

Kovacic is a class player, and would be a great addition to any Premier League side. Primarily a central midfielder, Kovacic’s strength lies in crisp passing and distribution.
His 91.3% passing accuracy is one of the best in the Spanish league. Kovacic can also operate as a defensive midfielder with ease, and is very good at making tackles.
He is good at dribbling, and creating chances through killer passes. This makes him an ideal player to replace Dembele in the long run. Hold up play suits his style too.
Mauricio Pochettino can tempt him with regular first team opportunities and Champions League football. He would undoubtedly be a cracker of a signing, and Spurs should do everything in their power to prise him away from Bernabeu.
