Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to secure a Champions League place this season, while Everton will be hoping to finish in the Premier League’s top-seven.
After two transfer windows without any signings, Tottenham’s summer rumour mill is back on track and Everton’s Michael Keane is seemingly a target.
The Daily Mail claims that Spurs are ready to lock horns with their North London rivals Arsenal for centre-back Keane, with the Toffees set to demand £50 million for his services.
When fit and available, Tottenham’s starting XI is as good as anybody’s in Europe from their solid backline to their underrated versatile forwards. But they need that extra push!
Given the defensive qualities Mauricio Pochettino has at his disposal, and Keane’s form for large parts of this season, adding the 26-year-old to their ranks should be seen as a no-no!
The former Manchester United academy product is yet to fully prove himself in an Everton team that has struggled to consistently perform during these last few campaigns.
So, why should Spurs feel the need to add him to their ranks when they are looking for players to take them to the next level. Now, that individual player doesn’t need to be ready-made, but if he can show he can do it in the near future then he should be snapped up. Keane fills neither of those bills, atm.
Added with that, his inflated price tag should, in itself, be off-putting because if Spurs have that type of money available then they can sure make better use of it.
In 2017, Everton signed Keane from Burnley for £30 million [BBC Sport], there is no doubt that there is something in his game that suggested he can produce the goods at a high level. But he needs to prove himself more at Goodison Park in order to show that type of player is still in there.
