Tottenham Hotspur were linked with Celtic’s Moussa Dembele during the summer transfer window.
Celtic striker Moussa Dembele’s goal against PSG last night has proven why Tottenham Hotspur should have spent big to bring him to the club over the summer, rather than Fernando Llorente.
Tottenham were linked with Dembele in the Scottish Sun, but ultimately decided against moving for the Celtic man, and went for Llorente instead.
Llorente has struggle since joining Spurs from Swansea City in the previous transfer window, with the Spaniard failing to impress.
Llorente has made 14 appearances for Tottenham, but is still yet to find the back of the net.
In Llorente’s defence, most of his displays have come as a substitute, but Spurs may well have been better off making a move for Dembele.
The French forward scored against Manchester City in the Champions League last season, and his goal against PSG last night only added to his growing reputation.
Although Celtic were beaten 7-1 by the Ligue 1 champions, Dembele actually did cause some problems.
And although Dembele would have cost Spurs a more sizeable fee than Llorente, he would have been a far better option for Pochettino than the former Swansea City man has turned out to be.
