Timo Werner is back in the Premier League and this time he will be donning the colours of Tottenham Hotspur.
HITC Football were told that Tottenham were going to sign the RB Leipzig player on a loan deal – and now the club have confirmed the deal.
This is a big move by Ange Postecoglou, not in terms of finances because it’s just a loan deal from the German club, but because of his previous struggles in England.
Many are suggesting the key reason Timo Werner is being snapped up by Spurs is because of his pace.
Well, if that’s the case, then Jeff Stelling thinks ‘you might as well sign Usain Bolt’ because he is ‘concerned’ about this move, as he told talkSPORT (08/01/24 at 6:40 am).
During the German’s time at Chelsea, he scored 23 goals in 89 matches and now he will be hoping to prove doubters wrong.
The one big positive Jeff Stelling did have with this Timo Werner capture is the fact that Tottenham have recruited well since Ange Postecoglou’s arrival.
Timo Werner’s pace
“He scored 23 times during his time at Chelsea and twice in Germany this season,” said Stelling.
“The thing that would concern me is that he has only started twice for RB Leipzig. He’s a sub player basically.
“In fairness to Spurs, they have recruited well with van de Ven, Maddion and Vicario, so they have recruited fantastically.
“But if it’s just about pace, which is what Ange wants, then you might as well sign Usain Bolt.”

Ange Postecoglou has credit in the bank
Look at someone like Richarlison. He struggled big time in his debut season under Antonio Conte. His confidence and form had gone out of the window.
As a result, there was a lot of pressure on his shoulders this season and now he is starting to prove his worth because he has five goals in his last five matches.
That’s further proof that Postecoglou has enough credit in the bank for him to be trusted with this Werner deal because he will get the best out of the previously struggling star.
Plus, the key thing of all is that Werner suits this all-action, no fear and attack-minded Tottenham style.
