Over the weekend, Real Madrid attacker Isco has emerged as a big name transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Mirror reported Spurs are keen to sign the Spanish international, with ESPN reporting they want to bring him in on a loan deal.

Securing Isco would be a huge coup for Spurs – as he is a long term transfer target for the club.

Going back to his Malaga days, Tottenham were keen on the creative midfielder, and were one of a number of sides weighing up a move for him.

Inside Spanish Football reported in 2012 that Tottenham sent Tim Sherwood, first team coach at the time, to scout Isco personally, during a Champions League match between Malaga and Anderlecht.

The following summer Spurs were beaten to the deal, as Isco joined Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid.

To compound matters, his arrival pushed Mesut Ozil out of the club – to Tottenham’s rivals Arsenal – and Real still went on to sign Spurs superstar Gareth Bale.

As part of the Bale deal, Tottenham and Real Madrid supposedly established a ‘special relationship’ which would result in more deals between the clubs, potentially La Liga stars coming to Spurs.

Despite this not a single deal was done in the three years since – yet now would be a perfect time to start, if it results in Tottenham snapping up a player once hailed by Marca as Real’s perfect antidote to Barcelona’s Xavi.
