Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Benfica boss Roger Schmidt – and his outstanding form in Portugal has now been recognised.
Tottenham’s hierarchy are probably pretty happy with Antonio Conte at the moment but there are lingering doubts over his future.
Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio claimed in January that Conte is ‘certain’ to leave Tottenham this summer and his mind is already made up.
Some sections of the Tottenham fanbase have grown a little tired of Conte, whose football hasn’t exactly been easy on the eye.
Add in that Conte seemingly wants Tottenham to keep spending on proven quality – something Spurs haven’t really done in years gone by – and it’s reasonable to suggest that Conte and Tottenham aren’t a great fit together.
Spurs may need to have some managers in mind for the summer and reports suggest one name is already on their wish list.
SportItalia’s Rudy Galetti reported in November that Tottenham already have Benfica boss Roger Schmidt in mind if Conte leaves.

It’s hard not to be hugely impressed with Schmidt’s season at Benfica.
The German has claimed 17 wins in 20 league games this season, dropping just seven points.
Ahead of tonight’s game against Boavista, Benfica sit top of the table and are pushing towards the league title.
Schmidt’s side have been an attacking powerhouse, racking up 51 goals in 20 games whilst conceding just 12 goals.
That’s the kind of football Tottenham fans would love to see and Schmidt – formerly of Bayer Leverkusen and PSV Eindhoven – could bring it to North London.
Schmidt has now won the Manager of the Month award in Portugal, which is voted for by other managers in Portugal’s top flight.
Schmidt took just over 30% of the vote and Benfica have dropped just two points in their last six outings.
This is the third time this season Schmidt has won the Manager of the Month award with his work at Benfica attracting major interest.
Tottenham must be paying close attention to this kind of form and Schmidt’s attacking brand may make him very appealing.
