Tottenham Hotspur have secured the signing of Rodrigo Bentancur – and he is expecting to improve his game under boss Antonio Conte.
Conte was desperate to add a new midfielder in the January window and a number of names were linked.
The likes of Weston McKennie, Mattias Svanberg and Douglas Luiz were linked with Tottenham but none of them arrived.
Instead, Fabio Paratici decided to strike a deal with his former club Juventus by bringing Bentancur to Tottenham.
Bentancur had been an important player at Juve ever since Paratici signed him from Boca Juniors back in 2017.
The Uruguayan ace has been allowed to leave now though, with Tottenham paying a fee of around €25million (£21million) to sign Bentancur.
Whilst Harry Winks has salvaged his Tottenham career, Conte clearly felt he needed another option to challenge Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp.
Bentancur can absolutely do that, providing the attitude and intensity that Conte wanted from the likes of Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli.
By scoring inside the first minute for Uruguay against Venezuela earlier this week, Bentancur even showed he can make an impact in the final third.

Having been with Juve in recent years, Bentancur will be familiar with Conte. After all, Conte’s Inter Milan won the Serie A title last season.
Tottenham fans will hope to see a big impact from Bentancur, and he seemingly can’t wait to play under Conte.
Speaking to Tottenham’s official website, Bentancur admitted that he is looking forward to playing for such a ‘great coach’ in Conte.
Bentancur even predicted that he will improve mentally and as a player under Conte, claiming he likes that prospect.
“I am looking forward to learning from Antonio Conte – I think he’s a great coach, he wants to win and gets 150 per cent out of his players,” said Bentancur. “I think he’ll make me improve even more, both mentally and as a player. I like that, and it’s a big motivation for me,” he added.
