Rio Ferdinand has offered a damning verdict on Tottenham Hotspur’s title chances by simply saying they ‘can’t win the Premier League.

A bright start to the summer window left some thinking that Tottenham could seriously close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City.

In one sense, they were right; Liverpool are seven points adrift of Tottenham and Spurs are just three points behind City.

Yet if you actually watch Tottenham in action, they are incredibly unconvincing for large parts of games and seem to leave themselves with lots to do in the second half.

Put simply, few Tottenham fans can really see Antonio Conte’s men challenging for the Premier League title this season.

Maybe Tottenham can make some key January signings to help them kick on but Spurs just seem a little short.

Another top four finish would be a positive season for Tottenham but Rio Ferdinand isn’t having them as title candidates.

Speaking on Vibe With Five, Ferdinand was going through the runners and riders for the title.

Ferdinand noted that, if he could pick any other team than Manchester United to win the Premier League, it would probably be Arsenal.

Ferdinand noted that he doesn’t want Liverpool, Manchester City or Chelsea to win the Premier League.

Yet when it came to Tottenham, Ferdinand offered four damning words; ‘Spurs can’t win it’.

“If there was any other team out of the big teams I wouldn’t mind winning the league, it would be Arsenal,” said Ferdinand. “I don’t want Liverpool to win it, I don’t want City to win it, I don’t want Chelsea to win it, Spurs can’t win it,” he added.

It’s clear that Ferdinand doesn’t even see Tottenham as being a contender at this point despite being in fourth place.

Tottenham are eight points behind league leaders Arsenal, which isn’t entirely insurmountable even if it’s a hefty gap at this stage of the season.

Tottenham need to keep adding quality for Conte in order to really challenge for the top honours, with more top players needed around the likes of Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur, Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Harry Kane.

Spurs have undoubtedly made progress under Conte but still have a way to go before being considered as genuine title contenders, which is hard enough when City can almost buy whoever they want.
