Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur and Sam Allardyce’s Everton have been linked with Manchester United defender Luke Shaw in the summer transfer window.
It has been reported that the relationship between left-back Shaw and his United manager Jose Mourinho has broken down.
It has also been claimed that Everton wanted the former Southampton star on loan in the January transfer window and would be interested in a permanent deal in the summer.
“Shaw would be interested in talking to Everton, but he would need assurances about the club’s future plans, a question that has extra significance given the uncertainty over Sam Allardyce’s future as manager,” states the report in The Times.
The report also stated the possibility of a swap deal between United and Tottenham Hotspur involved Danny Rose, and that moving to the North London outfit would be more appealing to Shaw than joining Everton.
“A more appealing option for Shaw would be a move to Tottenham and a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino, who managed him at Southampton,” states the report.
“One possibility is that Shaw, who has started only six league games this season, could be involved in a swap deal with Danny Rose.”
Everton or Tottenham Hotspur?
Shaw may have struggled at United since his move from Southampton in the summer of 2014 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £27 million, but there is no doubt that he is hugely talented.
It would make sense for the 22-year-old left-back, who earns £70,000 per week as salary at United according to The Daily Star, to move to Everton or Tottenham in the summer transfer window.
Given that the youngster has already worked with Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton, it would not be a bad idea for him to look at that option instead of joining Everton, who are an ambitious club but may not be able to challenge for a top-six finish in the Premier League next season.
