And his potential availability has excited Spurs fans, who are keen to see Mauricio Pochettino snap up the England international.
Tottenham fans think that swapping Alderweireld for Stones could be a deal that works out well for all parties, and have urged Pochettino to consider making the transfer.
Stones has played fairly regularly for City this campaign, but has been forced out of the team more recently with Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi and Americ Laporte all seemingly ahead of him in the pecking order.
Alderweireld, meanwhile, could leave Spurs in the summer, with his contract in doubt.
The Belgian has just one year let on his current deal at Tottenham, and could be sold to raise funds in the summer.
Alderweireld has barely featured for Spurs this term, owing partly to an injury he picked up earlier in the campaign.
