Tottenham Hotspur face lower-league opposition in the FA Cup for the second successive round when they travel to Newport County on Saturday evening.

As he did in the 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon, Mauricio Pochettino is likely to shuffle his pack and rest players ahead of a run of crucial Premier League fixtures.

However, Harry Kane, who scored twice against the Dons and has 11 goals in his last seven matches, should start up front with support from Fernando Llorente.

Erik Lamela, providing he passes a late fitness test on a bruised gluteus muscle, and Victor Wanyama are expected to come into the lineup to get crucial game time after long-term injuries, allowing the likes of Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen a weekend off.

Young defenders Juan Foyth and Kyle Walker-Peters have played in most of Tottenham’s domestic cup matches this season and will get a further opportunity in Wales.

Walker-Peters may be asked to cover at left-back for Ben Davies, who has had a busy festive schedule due to the injury to Danny Rose, with Kieran Trippier replacing Serge Aurier on the right of the defence.

All in all, Pochettino could make six changes to the team which drew 1-1 at St Mary’s, although second-choice goalkeeper Michel Vorm will retain his place despite Hugo Lloris having recovered from illness.
