Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Pedro Porro but a deal could be too expensive – and missing out may leave Antonio Conte a little frustrated.

The Athletic report that Porro is ‘going to be expensive’ with Sporting Clube de Portugal reluctant to sell their star right back.

Correio da Manha report that Porro does have a release clause of €45million (£39million), but Tottenham paying that in January seems unlikely.

Tottenham may find it difficult to negotiate with Sporting and a reduced fee in January just doesn’t seem likely.

Spurs may therefore struggle to bring in a new right wing back during the January window and it’s suggested that Conte could be frustrated.

Conte allegedly doesn’t want Tottenham to miss out on signing a top right wing back for the third window in a row.

Conte believes he is just a few players away from making Tottenham a real force, yet Spurs don’t intend to throw cash around in January.

Tottenham’s right wing back situation is a puzzle amid Porro interest

When Tottenham appointed Antonio Conte, they were committing themselves to his approach to playing with three centre backs.

Wing backs are vital to any Conte side and yet Tottenham’s situation on the right side just looks baffling.

Emerson Royal just isn’t cut out for playing as a wing back and will surely move on in 2023 to join a team who play with a back four.

Matt Doherty is still around at Tottenham but surely can’t be considered as a long-term solution to Conte’s needs.

Then there is Djed Spence, who was signed over the summer with a view to becoming Tottenham’s long-term right wing back.

Yet as we head towards the end of 2022, Spence still hasn’t started a Premier League game for Spurs and his role under Conte is a little unclear.

Conte would no doubt love a talent like Porro but it may take offloading a couple of right wing backs to bring another one in.
