Tottenham Hotspur are again interested in making Paulo Fonseca their manager but he is allegedly focused solely on his position at Lille right now.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who claim that Fonseca is once again on Tottenham’s managerial wish list.
Antonio Conte’s future looks uncertain and Tottenham could be moving for a new manager this summer.
Fonseca is allegedly ‘appreciated’ by Spurs and he is one name Tottenham are considering going for if Conte does leave.
Yet it’s stated that Fonseca is ‘fully focused’ on the job at Lille and isn’t having his head turned by talk of Tottenham wanting him again.
This comes after Foot Mercato reported in February that Fonseca had been involved in a heated argument with Lille president Olivier Letang.
That raised questions about Fonseca’s future – especially with the Daily Mail suggesting in January that West Ham were considering a move for Fonseca.
Any problems between the two appear to have been ironed out though with Fonseca not exactly pushing for a move to North London.
Why did Paulo Fonseca’s Tottenham move collapse?
Fonseca will be a very familiar name to Tottenham fans.
Spurs almost made Fonseca their manager in 2019 following the exit of Jose Mourinho; ironically, Mourinho replaced Fonseca as Roma boss.
Fabrizio Romano reported that Fonseca’s deal collapsed because of tax issues – but Fonseca himself has a different view on things.
Fonseca told The Telegraph that a deal was agreed and he was already planning pre-season with Tottenham.
However, Fabio Paratici came in as director of football and ‘didn’t agree’ with some of Fonseca’s attacking ideas and wanted a more defensive coach.
That resulted in the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo, which was a disaster.
Fonseca is now sixth in Ligue 1 with Lille and appears to still be on Daniel Levy’s radar; whether Paratici can be convinced of his merits is another matter though.
