Tottenham Hotspur came close to signing Nicolo Zaniolo over the summer and meetings were held over a potential transfer.
That’s according to Italian agent Massimo Brambati, who has been speaking to Tuttomercatoweb about Zaniolo.
Brambati claims that Tottenham ‘were close to signing Zaniolo’ during the summer transfer window.
Brambati suggests that Zaniolo and his father met with Tottenham officials to try and thrash out a deal.
For whatever reason, the deal didn’t materialise and Zaniolo remains with Roma, where he isn’t quite at his best.
Brambati feels that Jose Mourinho just isn’t the right coach for Zaniolo and believes that the Italian ace would be better off elsewhere.
The agent claims that Tottenham boss Antonio Conte would be able to get more out of Zaniolo, suggesting that they would be much better together.

Tottenham going back in for Zaniolo wouldn’t be a surprise
It feels like Tottenham have been linked with Zaniolo in every other transfer window for years now.
Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte will be very familiar with Zaniolo’s quality and a Tottenham bid in 2023 wouldn’t be a huge shock.
Zaniolo clearly has real talent but injuries and playing under Mourinho have somewhat stifled him in recent times.
The 23-year-old has only scored once in 11 games for Roma this season and some are starting to feel that he won’t live up to his potential.
Roma may well be tempted to sell Zaniolo in 2023 and Tottenham may be near the front of the queue.
Tottenham need a little more creativity, as well as a player who can offer competition and cover for Dejan Kulusevski down the right flank.
Zaniolo can fill both of those roles and there is just so much untapped potential in the Roma ace that Conte and co may believe that they can get him back on track.
