Tottenham Hotspur want Nicolo Zaniolo and are willing to send a player to Roma in part-exchange for the attacking midfielder.
That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Tottenham are discussing a loan deal for Zaniolo with an option to buy.
Roma aren’t interested in that right now as they want to sell Zaniolo for around €40million (£35million), meaning Spurs may need to get creative.
Romano even claims that Tottenham are willing to offer a player to Roma as part of the deal.
There are no names mentioned but Tottenham would seemingly hope that Jose Mourinho fancies taking a Spurs player to the Italian capital.
This comes after Romano noted that Tottenham had offered a player plus cash for Sporting wing back Pedro Porro.
It seems that Fabio Paratici is attempting to wheel and deal in order to give Antonio Conte the players he wants, with two swap deals now wanted.
Who could Tottenham send to Roma for Nicolo Zaniolo?
A prime candidate here may be Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga.
Given his debut at Tottenham by Mourinho, Tanganga has barely featured under Conte this season.
Roma were understood to be keen on Tanganga over the summer with Mourinho chasing a reunion, but no deal was done.
Tanganga may well be surplus to requirements at Tottenham and offering him up to Roma in the hope that Mourinho is still keen makes sense.
Another option could be Joe Rodon amid rumours that his loan spell at Rennes could be ended prematurely.
Mourinho liked Rodon at Tottenham and signed him from Swansea City, whilst summer rumours suggested that Spurs did offer Rodon to Roma in part-exchange for… you guessed it, Zaniolo.
Davinson Sanchez, Bryan Gil and Emerson Royal could be available too, but whether Roma are open to a swap deal this month remains to be seen.
