Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Mauro Icardi has not asked to leave Paris Saint-Germain amid links with Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Icardi has not told PSG that he wants to leave in the January transfer window.

Romano has added that Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG have not started thinking about signing a replacement striker for the 28-year-old Argentina international striker.

Foot Mercato reported in December that Tottenham and Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign Icardi in January.

Could Mauro Icardi join Tottenham Hotspur?

In our view, whether or not Tottenham are able to sign Icardi in the January transfer window will depend on what PSG want to do.

The French giants need not sell or send the striker out on loan until and unless he asks to leave.

After all, having another striker on top of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in the squad can only be a good thing for head coach Pochettino.

However, if Icardi tells PSG that he wants to leave, then Tottenham have a chance.

The Argentina international is a very good striker who would give Spurs head coach Antonio Conte another option in attack.
