Tottenham Hotspur moved to address concerns over their goalkeeping position on deadline day with the signing of Pau Lopez on loan from Espanyol – with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season.
The goalkeeper left Espanyol after eight years and obviously it was a tough decision for him to leave his boyhood club.

In an open letter to fans on the Espanyol website he explained his decision to leave, insisting it was his, and that he will always have a place in his heart for the club.
He stated, as translated by Football Espana:
“Several circumstances meant I could not have said goodbye as I would have liked.
“Firstly, it was my decision alone to leave the club. The manager and board told me they did not wish for me to leave, but I took the decision.
“Secondly, it was a personal decision to move on as I believe it will enhance my professional career and allow me to keep improving.
“Fans can be sure that, no matter what happens in the future, this club will stay in my heart.”

The ‘keeper now faces a battle to get first-team football at Spurs.
He is behind Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm in the pecking order from the off, although the former is currently injured.
Pau is however highly regarded by Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who knows him from his time at the Catalan club.
The 21-year-old is undoubtedly being seen as one for the future at White Hart Lane and with the right nurturing he could undoubtedly become a first-team regular in years to come.
