Injuries and departures in have left Tottenham short in midfield, and Eric Dier is needed back more than ever.

Fortunately the 25-year-old is close. PremierInjuries.com report Dier’s scheduled return date is this weekend against Fulham.

He has been out of action after having his appendix removed in December.

Dier returned to training late last week, although was not in the matchday squad against Manchester United.

An injury to Moussa Sissoko makes Dier’s prompt return even more essential for Spurs, with Mousa Dembele sold and Victor Wanyama also out injured.

Harry Winks and Oliver Skipp are Tottenham’s remaining top choice midfielders, but the pair together are lightweight. They might get away with it against Fulham, but Chelsea away a few days later will be a different matter.

Dier likes to play a ‘destroyer’ role in midfield and Tottenham need his physical presence.

He was claimed to be ‘as good as Sergio Busquets’ by former England boss Sam Allardyce on Talksport earlier this season after his performance against Spain.

Allardyce took his praise a bit too far, but that shouldn’t diminish the huge impact Dier can have on the Tottenham team upon his return.

Spurs have to be wary of rushing him back. If he is ready this weekend, it will be a huge boost and give his teammates a timely lift.
