Tottenham Hotspur must strongly consider Cameron Carter-Vickers for a first team spot next season.

Tottenham Hotspur have this week been linked with defender Issa Diop, with Mundo Deportivo revealing this week they have scouted him in recent months.

Diop is a centre-back for Toulouse and is attracting interest from both Real Madrid and Barcelona, along also from Arsenal.

But before Tottenham consider splashing out, they must give careful consideration to young defender Cameron Carter-Vickers future.

The American centre-back is progressing well this season out on loan, and is currently on his second spell in the Championship.

He established himself as a regular in Sheffield United’s line-up before this loan ended and he headed to Ipswich.

At Ipswich he has immediately become a starter and has impressed with his performances so far.

He appears to have a natural love for the game, telling TWTD last week: “I’m a defender who likes to get stuck in, win headers and win big tackles. It’s about helping the team as much as you can to keep clean sheets and win games. Blocks, challenges, it’s all part of defending.”

Tottenham could not have asked for more from Carter-Vickers on his loan spells so far this season, and he could very easily be part of their squad now, filling in Juan Foyth’s role.

Spurs felt it was important he went out and played competitive football this season and Carter-Vickers has answered this challenge.

You need only look at his teammate’s Marcus Edwards’ struggle to make Norwich’s first team squad to realise that Carter-Vickers’ progress should not be taken for granted.

He will return to Tottenham a better player next season and assuming they do not lose star man Toby Alderweireld, which would throw everything into a tailspin, the club would be better off keeping Carter-Vickers than splashing out the £44 million which Toulouse want for Issa Diop, who is just one year older than the Spurs talent.
