Tottenham Hotspur have Giovani Lo Celso waiting to make his debut

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is heading towards his toughest team selection dilemma yet.

This is a positive problem to have, thanks to the arrival of new signing Giovani Lo Celso.

It was underscored by Christian Eriksen’s performance off the bench at the weekend, in which he created three chances in just over 20 minutes.

Eriksen is no longer an automatic starter at Spurs, and this was a weekend where Dele Alli was unavailable due to injury.

Tottenham’s midfield at the weekend against Aston Villa featured Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela.

Where Lo Celso fits in is a dilemma for Spurs to figure out, with Alli, Eriksen, and youngster Oliver Skipp all competing for position.

Lamela would be an obvious choice to drop out given his inconsistency, but if he can put a good run of form together than leaving him out will be difficult.

Of course Eriksen may only be at Spurs for a year longer, but for this season he is part of the puzzle, and as he showed at the weekend, he still has a part to play.

Having a large squad is essential for Spurs to compete in all competitions.

But as Mauricio Pochettino saw in last season’s Champions League final leaving out Lucas Moura, sometimes he will have to make impossibly hard decisions.

Lo Celso gives Tottenham scary depth, and makes Pochettino choosing from a fully fit squad a pleasant but tough task.
