The Spurs midfielder is now a fan favourite but his early time at the Premier League club was testing for the player.
Moussa Sissoko has spoken out on his difficult early time at Tottenham Hotspur, admitting he wondered whether he had made the right choice in joining the club.
The 29-year-old joined Spurs from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016 for a £30million fee (BBC Sport) but he failed to impress during his first two seasons.
Sissoko was largely considered an expensive flop by some sections of the Tottenham fanbase but this term he has come in leaps and bounds, becoming an integral first-team player.
The France international is now a fan favourite and was even given a standing ovation when substituted in the 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last 16.
However, in an interview with Sky Sports News, Sissoko shed light over the early part of his Tottenham tenure and how it was a struggle, but he stresses he is now happy at the club.
“When you come from a team where you are playing every game, to a team where you are not playing as much as you want, you always think whether you made a good choice or not,” he said.
“My agent was with me, my uncle, and we spoke every day. We agreed it was the best choice for me, I just needed to stay passionate and keep working because I have the quality to be a success here. When I see my situation now, I am happy to have followed that way.”
Sissoko is now preparing for Tottenham’s Premier League away clash at Burnley on Saturday as Mauricio Pochettino’s charges bid to continue their recent good run of form in their fight against Liverpool and Manchester City for the title.
