Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino had to take Eric Dier off in the final stages of his side match at the weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told Football.London that Eric Dier couldn’t last 90 minutes against Newcastle United.

Dier hobbled off during the latter stages of Spurs’ contest at St. James’ Park, with fears forming that the England international picked up an injury.

However, Pochettino insists that Dier was fine, and he will be back in Tottenham training today.

He said: “I hope that Monday they will start to train with the team. Eric Dier was so tired. He felt in the end cramp, but Lucas nothing. I think it was very good competition today with a big squad. Massive competition between them and I’m going to rotate in the next few weeks, trying to give the possibility to all the players to play and be important.”

Dier had very little pre-season, before being thrown straight back into Tottenham’s starting line-up.

The 24-year-old had only just returned to from the World Cup with England, by the time he was put into Pochettino’s first choice line-up.

Dier helped Tottenham start their season with a win over Newcastle United on Tyneside.

The defensive midfielder performed well, as Spurs managed to collect the three points.

Tottenham’s next game comes at the weekend, when they take on Fulham at Wembley.
