Tottenham Hotspur have made a shock move to try and sign Barcelona attacker Memphis Depay ahead of the summer transfer window.
That’s according to Barcelona-based transfer insider Gerard Romero, who made the claims on Twitch on Monday evening.
As quoted by Barca Universal, Romero claims Tottenham have already made an offer to try and get Memphis on board for next season.
The transfer window is many weeks away, so making an offer in March seems strange, but Romero appears to be well-connected at Barcelona.
Memphis only joined Barcelona on a free transfer last summer, arriving at the end of his Lyon contract after 76 goals and 55 assists in 178 games.
The Dutch attacker has managed 10 goals in 19 games for Barcelona this summer, which is a pretty impressive record.
Yet with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now on board and Barcelona targeting other signings in attack this summer, Memphis could be pushed out.
Memphis, 28, is already inside the final 18 months of his Barcelona deal and the Catalan side may now be willing to cash in.
Hailed as ‘fantastic’ by Jose Mourinho, Memphis was actually wanted by Liverpool and Tottenham last year but chose Barcelona.
Fast forward less than 12 months and Memphis could yet end up at Tottenham if Romero is to be believed.

Just where would Memphis fit into this Tottenham side though?
Antonio Conte seems to have a settled front three right now with Harry Kane as the spearhead and support from Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski out wide.
Memphis would ideally want to play through the middle but could play on either flank if needed. Ultimately, he may be looking at a squad role at Tottenham, which may not be enough to tempt him into leaving Barcelona.
This is a surprise move from Fabio Paratici, but maybe he and Conte have a masterplan to utilise Memphis alongside Son, Kane and Kulusevski in a dangerous attack.
