Tottenham Hotspur have been offered the chance to sign Memphis Depay but a deal for the Barcelona attacker is considered to be unlikely.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Memphis has been put forward to Tottenham as a potential January signing.

However, a move isn’t likely to happen as things stand though a reason for that stance isn’t explained.

Memphis has only played twice for Barcelona in La Liga this season and hasn’t featured at all since November.

The Dutchman featured for the Netherlands at the World Cup in Qatar though and scored a lovely goal in a 3-1 win over the United States.

Memphis may hope that his display in that game can help drive some interest and secure him a move away from the Camp Nou.

Yet it currently looks like Tottenham aren’t biting and don’t plan to bring Memphis back to the Premier League in January.

Memphis move not the worst idea for Tottenham

Memphis is a hugely talented player; 76 goals in 178 games for Lyon show that.

Even in his first season with Barcelona, Memphis notched 12 goals in just 28 La Liga games.

The 28-year-old has talent in front of goal and just seems to be an odd man out at Barcelona.

Tottenham may well need another attacker in January, especially with Richarlison picking up another injury problem.

Dejan Kulusevski has endured injury issues of his own this season whilst Son Heung-min and Harry Kane can’t be relied upon forever.

Memphis can offer an option to support Kane or play on the flanks, whilst there would even be the possibility for Memphis to play as a number 10.

Memphis wasn’t exactly a roaring success in the Premier League with Manchester United but if the transfer fee and wages aren’t too excessive, maybe this is a deal Tottenham should consider.
