Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard is currently minded to ignore interest from Tottenham Hotspur and head abroad this summer.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Tottenham have asked about Lingard with the aim of teeing up a summer deal.

Lingard’s contract expires at the end of the season and it looks unlikely that he will stay at United.

Tottenham are now hoping to move in and sign Lingard for free, but they may have their work cut out.

It’s stated that Lingard is currently leaving towards ignoring English interest and heading abroad.

We have seen the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham thrive abroad in recent times, though they left England as youngsters.

Lingard – hailed a ‘total player’ by Gianfranco Zola – is approaching his 30’s and is seemingly gambling on becoming a star away from the United Kingdom.

Lingard was a sensation at West Ham last season, so who can question that belief? With nine goals and four assists in just 16 games, Lingard showed he can excel away from United.

Since returning to Old Trafford, Lingard has failed to start a single Premier League game.

In eight league substitute appearances, Lingard has played just 88 minutes. That simply isn’t good enough for Lingard, who is now plotting his exit.

A move to Tottenham would at least see Lingard play more regularly and give him a return to London.

Yet with clubs abroad seemingly wanting him too, Lingard may snub Antonio Conte to try his luck on the continent.
