Tottenham Hotspur want James Garner and have already submitted an opening offer for the Manchester United midfielder.
United are in an absolute mess and have somehow decided that Adrien Rabiot can help solve their problems.
The Juventus midfielder remains a key target for United and could join Fred, Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen in Erik ten Hag’s midfield ranks.
That may though spell the end for youngster Garner, whose sale could recoup funds from any Rabiot deal.
Tottenham Hotspur want James Garner
The Athletic reported earlier today that United have decided to sell Garner this summer.
It was suggested that United will take around £14million for Garner with Everton, Southampton and Leeds United all interested whilst even Tottenham are keen.
The Sun’s Alan Nixon now reports via Patreon that Spurs have actually submitted a first bid for Garner in the hope of securing his signature.
The offer seemingly isn’t at United’s asking price though and Tottenham will likely have to come up with a better offer.
Tottenham allegedly view Garner as a long-term project but their interest certainly makes sense.
Tottenham have been up against it in terms of homegrown numbers and need to bring in more English talent.
Djed Spence helped that situation this summer but more homegrown talents are needed and Garner fits the bill.
If a deal can be done, the idea would be for Garner to come in and compete with Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and summer signing Yves Bissouma.
Garner, 21, spent 18 months on loan at Nottingham Forest and helped them win promotion to the Premier League back in May.
Garner was outstanding for Forest and it’s quite surprising that United aren’t even giving him a chance in their less-than-impressive midfield.
Bruno Fernandes even picked out Garner as the United youngster he would most like to play with, but that prospect now seems unlikely.
Tottenham have seemingly seen potential in Garner and are now pushing to beat the competition to his signature this summer.
