Tottenham Hotspur have failed with a bid for Porto winger Luis Diaz after Fabio Paratici made contact with the wide man’s representatives.

Football London reported on Tuesday that Paratici had made contact with Diaz’s entourage in order to try and set up a deal.

Tottenham seemingly received enough encouragement to then make a cash bid for Diaz ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

However, The Guardian claim that Tottenham’s £37.6million bid has been rejected, with Porto demanding much more.

Diaz has a huge £66million release clause in his contract, with Tottenham absolutely nowhere near that price at the moment.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham go back in for Diaz, but he is thought to have many admirers inside the club.

Diaz, 25, has been absolutely incredible for Porto this season. In 28 games across all competitions, Diaz has smashed 16 goals and six assists.

The Colombian just can’t stop scoring, and it seems almost inevitable that he will end up leaving Porto in the near future.

After all, that’s exactly what happened with his compatriots Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez at Porto.

Tottenham may still hope to bring Diaz in before the transfer deadline, but where exactly is he going to play?

Diaz only really plays down the left flank, cutting inside to cause mayhem on his right foot.

We haven’t really seen Diaz feature on the right flank, as that nullifies the threat of him cutting inside to shoot.

Tottenham already have a star left winger in Son Heung-min, who does the same kind of thing; squaring up defenders, going past full backs, getting shots away on the right foot.

Signing Diaz would mean one of him or Son would have to go over to the right flank, which just doesn’t seem ideal for either of them.

Diaz is a quality player, but Tottenham have issues in many other areas; they need a right wing back, a centre back, midfield improvements, a playmaker, another striker.

A left-sided winger just doesn’t seem like a priority for Tottenham right now, and that money may be better spent elsewhere.
