The winger, loaned out by Spurs to Marseille, did little to impress in this fixture.
The African Cup of Nations is now underway and yesterday saw Cameroon take on Burkina Faso in their first game of the competition.
The Indomitable Lions could only manage a 1-1 draw in the game. Benjamin Moukandjo’s free-kick had given them the lead before a goal from Issoufou Dayo earned Burkina Faso a point.
The result could however have been much different. Cameroon were the better team throughout and at 1-0 up a Tottenham Hotspur loanee could have wrapped up the result.
Tottenham’s Clinton Njie during training
A long-range strike was parried by the Burkina Faso goalkeeper and fell into the path of the Spurs striker Clinton N’Jie, currently out on loan at Marseille.
He just had to slide the ball into the back of the net. But he managed to skew a left-foot strike wide of the post much to the frustration of Cameroon staff, fans and team-mates.
Tottenham’s Clinton Njie sat in the stands
N’Jie was signed by Tottenham last summer but poor form and injuries soon suggested he might not be up to the standard necessary at White Hart Lane and he has not exactly set the world alight at the Stade Velodrome.
Based on this evidence, it again looks like Tottenham made the right choice.
