Tottenham are linked to Matias Vecino for the second year running.

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Matias Vecino, but fans should not get carried away.

The Sun report Tottenham have ‘demanded’ a move for Vecino as part of their negotiations with Inter Milan over Mousa Dembele.

Signing the Uruguay midfielder would be an exciting proposition, but how likely is it to happen?

Let’s say the jury remains out.

The Sun also linked Vecino with a move to Tottenham one year ago, when he was playing for Fiorentina.

Yet Spurs stood by as Inter Milan moved unchallenged to sign the South American for £21 million.

Vecino made 25 Serie A starts last season and has no reason to want to leave the Nerazzuri, even if Dembele signed.

He has the chance to play Champions League football which he helped earn, and quitting after just one year would be an odd choice.

The 26-year-old starred for Uruguay in their World Cup opener against Egypt and would be a solid signing for Tottenham if they can get him.

But as it stands, this is a rumour which looks to us like a bit of a red herring, with his name floated out there as a way of furthering the Dembele story, harking back to their ‘interest’ a year ago.
