Tottenham Hotspur, Swansea City and Chelsea have all been linked with Colombian full-back Santiago Arias.
If Tottenham Hotspur want to sign a new right-back before the end of the transfer window, they are seriously running low on time.
Football Espana reported earlier this month that they had made a bid for Valencia’s Joao Cancelo, only for the Portuguese international to move to Inter Milan instead.
Therefore, they will be hoping of completing a deal for PSG’s Serge Aurier. The Standard report that a £23 million deal is possible though L’Equipe claimed recently that the Ivory Coast flyer has also been in talks with Juventus.
Consequently, PSV Eindhoven right-back Santiago Arias has emerged as a more realistic, if underwhelming, signing in recent days. The Sun report that Spurs are battling Chelsea and Swansea City for the Colombian, who impressed at the 2014 World Cup.
And it appears that Arias would be receptive to a move to the Premier League after winning two Eredivisie titles in three years with PSV.
“The faster it happens, the better. It’s time to leave,” Arias said in quotes reported by De Telegraaf. “I feel strong, learned a lot in the Eredivisie. Now it’s a good time to take a step.”
The report also claims that the 25-year-old is interested in a move to Swansea, where he would likely get more regular game time than in North London or at Stamford Bridge.
The Mail reported on Wednesday that Paul Clement’s side had made an initial bid of £2 million – though The Sun add that PSV would demand offers closer to £12 million.
Swansea, who unlike Spurs usually field a flat back four, possibly see Arias as competition for Kyle Naughton with 34-year-old Angel Rangel likely to be a bit-part player under Clement. An attacking full-back with plenty of quality in possession, Arias could form a good partnership with Martin Olsson on the opposite flank.
