Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in the Premier League winner.

Riyad Mahrez of Leicester looks on during the pre-season friendly match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City at Molineux on July 29, 2017 in Wolverhampton, England.

The Mirror reported this month that Tottenham Hotspur were set to renew an interest in Leicester City ace Riyad Mahrez.

The £30 million-rated winger has been well below par since winning the PFA Player of the Year award back in 2016 and, at the moment, Leicester might be happy to take the £30 million and run based on his form over the past 18 months.

Craig Shakespeare and Leicester parted company this week and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy might well hope that the Foxes’ next manager doesn’t reinvigorate the Algeria international.

If he does then his price-tag could climb quite a bit over the next three months.

The 26-year-old is contracted to the King Power Stadium club until 2020 and City could find themselves back in a position of power regarding Mahrez’s transfer fee if he gets back to his best form.

Rediscovering his scintillating form could also see a number of foreign clubs – notably Roma – renew an interest in the Premier League winner, who has seven goals and five assists in his previous 44 top-flight outings.

Roberto Mancini is among the names touted, but is it unthinkable that Mahrez gets back to his best form under a manager as decorated as him? Of course not.

At his best, Mahrez is an exceptional talent and his PFA Player of the Year award proves it, and there is every chance he could reach that level under Mauricio Pochettino in North London, but setting the Premier League alight under Shakespeare’s successor means he could only get more expensive and court other suitors.

And that isn’t what Spurs need.
