Tottenham Hotspur are set to appoint Antonio Conte as their new boss, but chairman Daniel Levy actually wanted to go for Paulo Fonseca.
That’s according to a report from The Mirror, who claim that Levy wanted to go back in for Fonseca having sacked Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday.
Levy has previously indicated that he wanted attractive, attacking football back at Tottenham.
That’s ultimately why Tottenham moved for Fonseca over the summer, only for the deal to be kiboshed after Fabio Paratici’s arrival.
Levy clearly still likes Fonseca and would’ve liked to resurrect the move, but Conte is on his way in instead.
Scott Parker discussed alongside Fonseca at Tottenham
The report adds that Bournemouth boss Scott Parker was a shock name being discussed inside Tottenham when weighing up Nuno’s replacement.
Parker only left Fulham for Bournemouth over the summer. The Cherries look well-placed for a return to the Premier League this season.
Parker has history at Tottenham as a player and as a coach, and Levy would no doubt love to see him return one day.

In the end though, Paratici won out. He wanted Conte as Tottenham manager having worked together at Juventus in the past.
Tottenham fans will surely be happy with how this played out.
Fonseca would have been something of a gamble, especially after missing out on the job in the first place.
Parker is an exciting young coach, but wouldn’t have stemmed the tide against angry Tottenham fans.
Conte is a big name, a proven winner and a major signal of intent. Maybe Parker’s day will come one day, but Levy’s idea of appointing Fonseca looks unlikely to ever come off.
