Tottenham Hotspur were embarrassed at Leicester City on Saturday afternoon and Gary Lineker summed up the performance with just one word.

Having beaten Manchester City last week, Spurs fans were hoping for a real run of consistency in the Premier League.

Instead, Tottenham fell apart with a shambolic performance away at Leicester.

It all started so well with Rodrigo Bentancur opening the scoring but Tottenham were shocking from that point on.

Nampalys Mendy, James Maddison, Kelechi Iheanacho and Harvey Barnes were all on the scoresheet as Leicester ran riot.

Spurs seemed to really miss Cristian Romero and even the much-criticised Hugo Lloris as they fell to a 4-1 thumping.

Newcastle United dropped points this weekend and Tottenham really didn’t take advantage, meaning they remain outside of the Champions League places.

Gary Lineker slams Tottenham display

Tottenham fans are understandably fed up now; Spurs just can’t seem to find any consistency and they haven’t managed to string three league wins together at any point this season.

Questions continue to be asked of the long-term strategy with Antonio Conte at the helm and it’s hard to confidently predict a top four finish right now.

To collapse away at a Leicester side – who haven’t exactly pulled up any trees themselves this season – has to set alarm bells ringing.

One man with a foot in both camps for Saturday’s game is Gary Lineker.

The Match of the Day host was born in Leicester and made his name with the Foxes before later racking up the goals for Tottenham.

Lineker took to Twitter to celebrate some ‘excellent football’ from Leicester before adding that it was a worrying performance from Tottenham.

Lineker simply called the display ‘awful’ – a verdict few Tottenham fans would disagree with after such a dreadful capitulation.
