Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to win a trophy next season as Spurs make their mark in the summer transfer market.

Ledley King doesn’t think Mauricio Pochettino will have to pick up Tottenham’s players in pre-season, with the worry that they could still feel the effects of their Champions League final defeat in June.

It was a bitterly disappointing end to the season for the North London club, who overall, punched well above their weight considering what they had at their disposal.

That could change ahead of the new campaign because Spurs have been busy in the summer transfer window, with big-money signing Tanguy Ndombele making the switch to the Premier League club on Tuesday.

Former White Hart Lane favourite King stated that he doesn’t see the player’s morale going into pre-season as a problem, as he is hoping they will be feeling confident more than anything.

“I don’t think it will be difficult,” King told the Evening Standard. “There was the initial disappointment to lose the game, but then you have to take a step back and look at the season as a whole.

“To reach a Champions League Final is an unbelievable achievement considering we haven’t been playing in that competition that long. What I hope it will do is give the players that confidence to know that they can beat any team in the competition and they are capable of winning the competition, having come so close.

“That is what I would expect the players to feel coming back into the season and they will be hungry to try and get back to the Champions League Final, but also to make a good contribution to trying to win the Premier League, which is never easy as well. That’s how the players will hopefully feel coming back in, to be the best they can be and to improve on last season.”

It wouldn’t be a surprise if more players walk through the doors of Tottenham’s new stadium ahead of the new campaign, and if they do, then it’ll benefit the club massively.

There should be an air of confidence from the Tottenham players next season and the hope that they can end their trophy drought under Pochettino.
