All the news and gossip relating to Tottenham Hostpur in the past 24 hours.

Andre Villas Boas is reportedly still fuming that a deal to sign Joao Moutinho did not go through on transfer deadline day. Tottenham and Porto had agreed a fee and even the player himself had agreed to the move with all the necessary paperwork ready between the 2 clubs but it was the confusion over a third-party ownership stake in the player that created an ultimate delay and eventual collapse of a deal. The Portuguese international is reported to be in talks with Zenit St Petersburg today which will only compound AVB’s misery.

A Tottenham XI side thrashed Wycombe Wanderers in a friendly game arranged at Spurs Lodge last night 6-0. Regular first teamers Michael Dawson and Tom Huddlestone featured alongside fringe players such as Andros Townsend and Kyle Naughton. The goals came courtesy of Ryan Mason (2), Jonathan Obika (2), Giancarlo Galifuoco and Jack Munns. It was the performance of Huddlestone that really caught the eye as he pulled the strings from the centre of the midfield.

Jermain Defoe has spoken openly about how football gives him peace as he still reels from a tumultuous year on a personal level. Jermain tragically lost his father to cancer and his young cousin to a freak electrocution accident in St Lucia. The 29 year old however believes football and his faith give him strength and he hopes to use is recent good performances to great effect in an England shirt against Moldova this Friday.

The striker also spoke about the ‘madness’ of the transfer window admitting he didn’t quite know who would be at the club with each passing day. As Tom Huddlestone and Michael Dawson were linked with eventually unapparent moves away Rafael Van Der Vaart left for Hamburg and Hugo Lloris, Clint Dempsey and Mousa Dembele came in. The mayhem became so apparent that even Scott Parker and Aaron Lennon were linked with shock moves away. Defoe himself was linked with a move away up until the penultimate day of the window, when AVB rewarded his positive start to the season with a new contract.

Meanwhile HITC’s Connor Jipps took a look at the humorous side of the apparent AVB hating amongst the Spurs community by reporting on the top trending topic on Twitter, #AVBsFault. Topics that came down to being the fault of the Portuguese manager included and were not limited to burnt toast, papercuts and even the size of Wagon Wheels.
