An opportunity to sign Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo could be about to present itself to Tottenham. The Spanish side have announced they are in debt by £15 million and are willing to sacrifice their star man to get back on track. The 27-year-old striker has seven goals in 12 games this season and were reported to have enquired about the goalscorer last summer only to be knocked back.
Another name potentially on the club’s radar is Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella. The 29-year-old is said to have fallen out with manager Antonio Conte and willing to leave the club. Talksport claim Tottenham had a previous enquiry for the player turned down and will be on alert, with several Russian clubs also interested in the striker.
However whether Spurs need a new striker is a point not all will agree with entirely, especially goalkeeper Brad Friedel. The American says the duo of Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor is as good as any in the Premier League, adding that he feels Defoe thrives when he has the Togolese forward alongside him, and has urged his boss to stick with the formation.
Kyle Walker says he is keen to help Tottenham keep a clean sheet against Everton, but knows it will not be easy. “Ever since I’ve played in the Premier League, Everton is always one of the tough games.” He went onto praise Defoe, Adebayor and Dempsey, claiming the goalscoring form of the three will be crucial in helping the club get a result.
Everton are boosted for the clash by the return of Kevin Mirallas, although the Belgian striker is likely to start on the bench with Nikica Jelavic leading the line with Steven Naismith in support.
Andre Villas-Boas has taken a sideways swipe at Chelsea, insisted the Champions League ‘lucky losers’ do not deserve their spot in the Europa League. Chelsea will enter next week’s draw for the competition as one of eight teams who finished third in the Champions League groups.
