All the latest news, views, and rumours relating to Tottenham Hotspur over the last 24 hours.
Tottenham are being linked with a surprise January move for Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian has started just two league matches this season, and is thought to be growing frustrated with his ‘super-sub’ role. Spurs would have a big ask to persuade City to sell to a rival mid-season, but the club are flush with cash after summer sales, and may try to tempt the champions if Adebayor’s fortunes do not pick up by the new year.
Spurs are also being linked with a swoop for Ajax centre-back Toby Alderweireld. The Belgian international is a former teammate of Jan Vertonghen, and the club have been linked with a £7.2 million offer to re-unite them, with AC Milan also interested.
Jermain Defoe says he expects tomorrow’s Capital One Cup clash against Norwich at Carrow Road to be ‘tough’. The Canaries claimed a draw in the Premier League at White Hart Lane earlier this season, and Defoe is likely to lead the line with Adebayor ill. On HITC Sport this afternoon we discussed Iago Falque using the game as an audition for the first team, and reflected on Harry Kane, likely to cut a frustrated figure on the Norwich sidelines thanks to his metatarsal injury.
Tottenham’s assistant Steffen Freund has confirmed Emmanuel Adebayor is ‘unhappy’ at his start to the season, and frustrated to have fallen ill ahead of a game in which he would have been a certain starter.
Gareth Bale has told Tottenham’s official website that the side will not underestimate Norwich, hinting at his own possible involvement in the squad. Tottenham are determined to win silverware this season, as confirmed by William Gallas yesterday, and tomorrow’s line-up will likely reflect this. Bale himself if he does feature will hope for a repeat of his last trip to Carrow Road, in which he netted twice last December.
Lloris is expected to start in goal, but Dembele is an injury doubt, report the BBC. Jake Livermore, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Iago Falque, Andros Townsend and Kyle Naughton will all be hoping for starts.
El Hadji-Diouf has become the latest unwelcome figure to butt into the Brad Friedel-Hugo Lloris debate. The Leeds United striker has urged Spurs to back Friedel, and claimed the French media simply do not know how good the American is, when discussing why Lloris is not yet number one.
It is also being claimed that Tottenham are monitoring Toulouse midfielder Ettien Capoue, along with Arsenal, but the Frenchman is wanted by Benfica as a replacement for Axel Witsel who they sold to Zenit St Petersburg ahead of the Russian transfer deadline last month.
