Josh Oluwayemi has joined Portsmouth after leaving Tottenham Hotspur – and boss Danny Cowley seems delighted with the deal.
Oluwayemi, 21, came up through the Tottenham ranks but never made a first-team appearance for the club.
The only senior action Oluwayemi has experienced was during a loan spell at non-league Maidenhead United in 2020.
Oluwayemi racked up the appearances for Tottenham’s Under-18’s and Under-21’s though, leaving some a little surprised that he was let go this summer.
Tottenham simply chose to release Oluwayemi at the end of his contract, allowing him to move on freely and pursue first-team action elsewhere.

Jose Mourinho seemed to be a fan of Oluwayemi during his time as Tottenham boss and even looked into signing him for Roma.
Rather than head to the Italian capital though, Oluwayemi has headed to the South Coast by signing for Portsmouth.
Oluwayemi recently joined Portsmouth on trial and has now done enough to earn a contract.
Pompey have today announced the signing of Oluwayemi on a one-year deal with the option of a second year.
This is a great opportunity for Oluwayemi to impress and become a first-choice goalkeeper with the League One side.
Oluwayemi will initially serve as competition for Josh Griffiths, who has joined on loan from West Bromwich Albion.
Yet with Griffiths only on loan, Oluwayemi can show that he is the man for the job on a long-term basis.
Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley seems to be delighted having secured Oluwayemi’s signature today.
Speaking to Pompey’s official website, Cowley praised Oluwayemi’s ‘amazing athleticism’ and claims that Oluwayemi is an ‘incredible’ shot-stopper.
“Josh had a great footballing education with Tottenham and has amazing athleticism,” said Cowley. “There is plenty of potential and he is exactly the sort of promising player that our club is looking to sign.”
“He’s an incredible shot-stopper and is also good with his feet, so we’re delighted to bring him to the club,” he added.
Oluwayemi will now hope to prove Cowley right whilst also seeking to move back up the pyramid and prove Tottenham wrong for letting him go.
