The January transfer window is just around the corner and Tottenham Hotspur may look for some additions to help Antonio Conte.

Tottenham still look to be a strong bet for a top four finish but Conte would no doubt love a few more players.

The subject of Conte’s future has come up yet again this week with rumours again suggesting that the Italian could decide to leave.

Tottenham will therefore want to appease their high-profile manager with a few new signings in January.

With that in mind, here is our five-point plan for Tottenham’s upcoming January transfer window…

Loan out Djed Spence… or give him a chance

Tottenham appeared to have signed their right wing back of the future when they secured Djed Spence from Middlesbrough over the summer. The 22-year-old had excelled on loan at Nottingham Forest and showed the attacking ability that Tottenham are seeking. Yet with just three minutes of Premier League action to his name this season, it looks like Spence just hasn’t convinced Antonio Conte yet. A loan move to another Premier League club would be ideal, at least giving Spence some minutes before the summer. Alternatively, just give him a chance – Tottenham’s other right wing backs are hardly excelling this season.

Sign a creative midfield player

Tottenham have the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur in midfield, but none of them are really considered to be creative players in the final third. Tottenham do sometimes miss a player with a bit of guile in the final third, and that was really exposed when Dejan Kulusevski was out injured. Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi has been linked, whilst Brighton and Hove Albion’s Alexis Mac Allister has been mentioned of late. Even if it’s just a playmaker to bring off the bench, this is something Tottenham must consider.

Find another winger

As mentioned earlier, Tottenham weren’t at their fluent best with Dejan Kulusevski was out injured. Richarlison may be able to play out wide but Spurs lacked a natural wide man whose first thought wasn’t to score. Conte doesn’t seem to trust Bryan Gil right now, so Tottenham may need to find themselves another wide man to offer competition for Kulusevski and Son Heung-min – and we’re not thinking of going back for Adama Traore here; Spurs need better.

Continue to shop for young talent

Antonio Conte no doubts wants to focus the spending on first-team players but Tottenham need to think beyond that. Spurs struck a deal for Sheffield United striker Will Lankshear on deadline day and he has already shown very promising signs. More signings like Lankshear would be welcomed, giving Tottenham an injection of young quality for the future for Conte – or their new manager – to work with for years to come.

Be open to deals with the summer in mind

Tottenham have already struck one deal with next season in mind, signing Destiny Udogie from Udinese before loaning him back to the Serie A club. Fabio Paratici has shown that he is open to such deals and it’s maybe something Tottenham should continue to consider those moves. For instance, 90Min suggested that Inter Milan may be open to selling Denzel Dumfries but taking him back on loan for the rest of the season, and that’s the kind of agreement Tottenham should give some thought to in January.
