Harry Winks reportedly chose Tottenham ahead of Arsenal.

England's Harry Winks (C) trains with teammates during a national football team training session at the Tottenham Hotspur Training Ground in Enfield, north London on October 4, 2017.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is the man of the moment after making his England debut at the weekend.

Winks, 21, has been winning plaudits after his impressive display against Lithuania, while Spurs are being credited by helping his path to stardom.

It could nearly have been very different for Winks, as The Mail report Arsenal tried to sign him as a youngster.

It has been a whirlwind rise since, only stalling slightly when he suffered an ankle injury at the end of last season.

His progress has rocketed once again over the last fortnight, with Winks playing in the Champions League for Spurs and making his debut for England on Sunday.

Had he chosen to go with Arsenal, perhaps Winks would have been at the same stage too – but he will never know and he will be glad he made the decision he did 12 years ago.
