Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino has admitted via the BBC that there are similarities between himself and Jurgen Klopp, his Liverpool counterpart.
Pochettino criticised Klopp’s coaching staff for their “strange” response to Kevin Wimmer’s challenge on Danny Ings during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Tottenham in the EFL Cup, claiming that the worst foul had in fact been committed by the Reds’ Trent Alexander-Arnold (Daily Mail).
Both managers fielded youthful sides at Anfield, where Daniel Sturridge scored twice to render Vincent Janssen’s consolation exactly that.

And when asked if the pair’s respective selections were evidence of their shared view of the game, Pochettino replied: “It’s difficult to know but, yes, I think that we care (about) the academies and we like the young players – to give opportunities if they deserve to play.
“(But) it’s true that Liverpool is a different project than us. We are building a different philosophy. But today was a good opportunity for both teams to show our younger players and the quality that we have for the future.”
The pair are currently engaged in a battle to become a Premier League champion, with Tottenham a point behind joint-leaders Liverpool in fifth.

Pochettino’s team fell just short of bringing the title to White Hart Lane last term, while Klopp’s Reds finished eighth and reached the Europa League final.
With a Champions League campaign to consider, Tottenham’s EFL Cup elimination will perhaps bother the Argentine the least of the two bosses.
