Could Tottenham swap Vincent Janssen for Steven Bergwijn?

Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to monitor talented PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn, according to ESPN.

Bergwijn is a regular in PSV’s team at just 20-years-old and he has scored five goals and provided four assists this season.

Tottenham face competition from Everton among others, and while their status and recent exploits in Europe give them an edge over the Toffees, PSV may still be reluctant to sell.

Fortunately Tottenham have a trump card which they can offer to sway a deal and substantially reduce Bergwijn’s price, Vincent Janssen.

Janssen was not a success at Tottenham and was sent out on loan to Fenerbahce this season, where he has also struggled.

It makes sense at this point for him to return to Holland where he remains highly rated and enjoyed most success.

It was with AZ Alkmaar in 2015/16 where he finished as the Eredivisie top goalscorer and earned his move to Tottenham.

He needs to get back to playing regularly again and raise his profile in Holland to maintain his international place.

Goal reported last summer how PSV were keen on Janssen, having ‘tracked him for sometime’.

If Tottenham are determined to land Bergwijn then offering Janssen up in a swap deal makes a lot of sense for all parties.
