Gareth Southgate may just have shown Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino the way forward next season, by putting Kieran Tripper on England’s set-pieces.
Trippier has been given the responsibility of taking England’s corners in Russia, and he has gone a great job so far.
The Spurs full-back has helped create four goals for the Three Lions, with John Stones’ header yesterday to open the scoring against Panama coming directly from his corner.
It may now be time for Tottenham to make Trippier their main corner taker, rather than Christian Eriksen.
Eriksen takes the bulk of Spurs’ set-pieces, but his delivery has not always been pin-point.
And there could be an argument to suggest that Trippier’s floated deliveries are causing more threat than Eriksen’s did over the course of the season.
Pochettino is sure to have a keen eye on the progress of England at the World Cup, given that so many of his Tottenham stars are in Southgate’s squad.
And he would be wise to take note of Trippier’s excellent set-pieces, as they could help Spurs become even more of a threat next term.
