Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Donny van de Beek from Ajax in the summer transfer window, according to Sport.

It has been reported that Tottenham have made contact with Ajax regarding bringing the 23-year-old midfielder to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

However, according to the report, the Netherlands international is holding out for Barcelona and wants to join the Spanish giants before any club.

Real Madrid and Manchester United are also claimed to want the youngster, who is valued at €55 million (£49.05 million) by Ajax.

Stats

According to WhoScored, Van de Beek made 22 starts and one substitute appearance in the Eredivisie for Ajax last season, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in the process.

The 23-year-old midfielder also scored two goals and provided one assist in five Champions League games, and provided one assist in two Europa League appearances for the Dutch giants in 2019-20, according to WhoScored.

Highly rated

Van de Beek is one of the best young midfielders in Europe, and his performances over the years in the Eredivisie and the Champions League have been superb.

Former Ajax and Chelsea star Jesper Gronkjaer raved about the Dutchman earlier this year, and compared him to ex-Blues and England international midfielder Frank Lampard.

Gronkjaer told Goal.com in May 2020: “I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at Real Madrid or Barcelona but I would rather see him at a club just below that. For his style of play alone, clubs like Tottenham or Chelsea would be a better fit.

“They are still top clubs and he is more like Frank Lampard, that kind of player. He is a big guy, box-to-box and takes good long shots, but he is not as technically gifted as other players that have come from Ajax. He is a player you can always get a certain level from.”
