Tottenham showed ambition in Madrid which Liverpool did not three years ago.

Tottenham Hotspur host Liverpool this weekend hoping to build on a very impressive week, in which the North London side went toe to toe with Real Madrid.
They produced an excellent performance, holding Real to a 1-1 draw, and set out to take the game to the reigning Champions League winners, starting with two up front.
Tottenham’s draw with Madrid may not have been as spectacular as Liverpool’s 7-0 destruction of Maribor, but there is no comparison between the Spanish and Slovenian opponents.
Tottenham’s real reason to feel proud is in direct comparison to Liverpool’s ‘efforts’ against Real Madrid in 2014.

Liverpool lost that game 3-0, but it was the manner of their approach which attracted controversy.
Reds manager at the time infuriated skipper Steven Gerrard for ‘resting’ him and leaving him on the bench, along with Coutinho and Raheem Sterling, while choosing to pick Fabio Borini up front.
Liverpool only lost the game 1-0, but their game plan showed a lack of ambition, which looks embarrassing now compared to Tottenham’s approach.

Spurs this week showed them how it’s done, and came away with a draw for their efforts, against arguably an even better Real side to the one Liverpool faced in 2014.
The draw has set Spurs up well to qualify for the knockout rounds too, which Liverpool, failed to do in 2014.
Whether Spurs are bold enough to start two up front at home to Liverpool this weekend is another matter, and embarrassing the Reds head to head will not be easy.
