Harry Kane was outstanding for England on Sunday as he toyed with former Tottenham Hotspur target Abdou Diallo in the Senegal defence.
England have coasted through to the quarter-finals of the World Cup after beating Senegal 3-0.
Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka were all on the scoresheet in a convincing victory for Gareth Southgate’s side.
That win sets up a fascinating battle with France on Friday and England will be looking for Kane to find the net again.
Harry Kane toys with former Tottenham target Diallo
Kane had been waiting for his first goal of the World Cup having already chipped in with three assists.
The goal did eventually come for Kane as he fired past Edouard Mendy from Phil Foden’s pass.
Kane exploited space left by Senegal defender Abdou Diallo as he stepped up to try and stop Jude Bellingham.
Kane was left all alone and Diallo just couldn’t get back to stop him smashing the ball into the net for 2-0.
This was kind of symptomatic of Diallo’s night as a whole.
The RB Leipzig defender didn’t enjoy his best night with Kane ability to drop deep ultimately causing problems for the Senegal defenders.
Kane benefiting from Diallo leaving a big gap is notable because the pair could have been teammates over the summer.
Tottenham were in the market for a left-footed centre back to play in Antonio Conte’s back three.
They ended up taking Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona but only after attempting a deal to sign Diallo from Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports from RMC Sport claimed that Tottenham actually wanted to sign Diallo as their new left-sided centre back.
However, PSG demanded €30million (£25million) for Diallo and Tottenham simply felt that such a deal was too expensive.
That left Diallo to join Leipzig instead and Tottenham won’t exactly feel that they have missed out here.
Lenglet has been doing a fine job and the way Kane exploited Diallo just goes to show the difference between good and elite.
