Hansi Flick has managed to cling onto his job as Germany boss with the 2021 Tottenham Hotspur target given another chance.

Cast your minds back to the summer of 2021 and Tottenham’s managerial search was… well, it was a complete mess.

Paulo Fonseca looked set to take the job at one point, then there was the brief dalliance with Gennaro Gattuso and eventually the appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo.

There were a host of other rumours too, including a shock link with Hansi Flick.

The Guardian reported in May 2021 that talks had been held with Flick as he decided to leave Bayern Munich.

Bild even claimed that Tottenham fought until the very end to try and appoint Flick as their new manager but it just wasn’t to be for Daniel Levy and co.

Flick instead decided to become Germany boss, signing on to replace Joachim Loew after Euro 2020.

It hasn’t exactly gone to plan for Flick though.

Germany crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage, throwing away a 1-0 lead against Japan to eventually lose 2-1.

Germany were better against Spain as they picked up a 1-1 draw and then beat Costa Rica but it wasn’t enough.

The changes have already started.

Technical director Oliver Bierhoff has resigned and some believed that Flick would be leaving his post as well.

However, the DFB have now confirmed that Flick will be staying in his post and will now be given another chance to succeed.

Euro 2024 takes place in Germany so there will be huge pressure on Flick to deliver a winning team in their home tournament.

Daniel Levy and co may keep tabs on Flick’s future in case the Tottenham job becomes available at another time, but it’s hard to argue that Spurs haven’t ended up better off with Antonio Conte.
