The France international stopper also spoke of his pride to be captaining Tottenham.
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris in action
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has opened up about his thoughts on the way Mauricio Pochettino has things set up at Spurs, with the France international very positive about the way things are going at present, as reported by Dugout.
The 30-year-old is a vitally important part of the Spurs side and made 43 appearances for the North London based side last year as they finished second in the Premier League with a points total of 86 – five more than what Leicester City got when they won the title in the 2015/16 campaign.
Spurs’ way of playing has won a lot of neutral admirers in the country, especially given as Tottenham have a lot of English based players in their side, and many felt that Pochettino’s side were the best footballing team in the Premier League last season, even if no trophies or titles were won.
Speaking out about how things are at Spurs, Lloris praised Pochettino massively for how he’s transformed the side while also claiming he loves training with goalkeeping coach Toni Jiminez, and said that the number one aim at the club is to reach the very top.
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris looks on
“The identity of this team is very important,” Lloris said, as reported by Dugout. “Of course I love to win, but I love to win in our style. The gaffer brought his ideas – possession, attacking football, risk in playing from the back and we’re all enjoying that, it makes me more complete as a man and as a goalkeeper. I really enjoy my time with Toni (Jiminez) because we work in this way every day.
“We have the ability to play under pressure. We can make mistakes, of course. We can miss passes, but the important thing is to repeat again, again, again, and it’s the same for everyone, all the players, then you build strong confidence in the team and you are ready to compete against anyone.
“Individually and collectively, we all aim to reach the highest level and it makes me proud to be the captain.”
Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris
Despite a disappointing European adventure in the 2016/17 season, on the domestic front Tottenham were excellent – reaching the FA Cup semi-finals as well as being runners-up in the Premier League, and much is expected from them next season.
Lloris may face some of his Spurs teammates on international duty tomorrow (Tuesday 13th June) as France – whom Lloris has represented 89 times – take on England in a friendly at the Stade de France.
