Glenn Murray has hailed Tottenham Hotspur wing back Emerson Royal after his performance against Manchester City on Sunday.
Tottenham have a great record against Manchester City in recent years and continued that with another win over Pep Guardiola’s men.
Harry Kane’s goal in the first half was enough to win it for Spurs as he fired past Ederson from a Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg pass.
City pushed for a leveller but just couldn’t break Tottenham down, even after Cristian Romero was sent off.
Kane will of course grab the headlines having become Tottenham’s all-time record goalscorer, but there was a more surprising hero on the day.

Glenn Murray hails Tottenham ace Emerson Royal
Tottenham secured a new right wing back on deadline day as Pedro Porro completed a rather protracted move from Sporting.
Porro wasn’t thrown straight into action against former club City though; he was left on the bench by interim boss Cristian Stellini.
Emerson Royal was given the nod at right wing back and turned in arguably his best Tottenham performance to date.
The Brazilian offered so much energy up the right flank all day long and had some nice interplay with Dejan Kulusevski.
Emerson also battled brilliantly with Jack Grealish in a fascinating matchup, with the Brazilian defending valiantly throughout.
A 2021 signing from Barcelona, Emerson hasn’t always found it easy with Tottenham but has deservedly received praise for his display against City.
Pundit Glenn Murray has joined in, suggesting to BBC Sport (18:10) that this was one of Emerson’s better displays in a Tottenham shirt.
Murray highlighted that the addition of quality competition in the form of Pedro Porro may well have sparked Emerson into life against City.
Not that Djed Spence and Matt Doherty weren’t good wing backs too, but Porro is something different and Murray thinks Emerson rose to the challenge due to the Spaniard’s arrival.
“It’s surprising what a bit of competition in the squad does for you, this has definitely been one of Emerson Royal’s better Spurs performances this afternoon,” said Murray.
